Youtube, Google Videos, Teachertube

As an instructor one of my concerns about using Youtube and Google Videos is the content. People post anything nowadays under any type of heading. What could start off as innocent and just search for material as for a class could turn into trouble. With using those types of programs in a classroom an instructor will have to be very careful about what they choose to show their students from those types of Web 2.0 sites., because they are really not just for educational purposes. Another concern for me would also be that those websites could be distraction for the students. They could get side track, because there is so much to explore on those sites outside of the what they are suppose to be doing.
I think Teachertube is a very good thing to use in the classroom. You will not have to really worry about a whole lot of censorship or negative content. This site was made for educational purposes only. It is an educational website so you won't have to sort through the videos to see what's crap and what's not. I do see value in the website, especially for a History class because it uses illustrations, lectures, and visible key notes are shown in the videos. I can integrate this website into the classroom by using it as a visual aid, because some videos show demonstrations such wartime.
I think all three Web 2.0 sites are good to use in the classroom, but Teachertube is the best. I think Youtube and Google videos can be used for more of entertainment purposes and Teachertube for educational. Web 2.0 sites are needed in the learning environment. Instructors just need to know when, how much, and the quality of the site they are using.

  1. I agree teacher tube is a safe route to take since you wont have to worry about bad things popping up. Videos are definitely a good way to keep students attentions and to differentiate instruction
